Overview of Conference

The Coordinated School Health Conference is just one piece of a year-long process. Prior to the conference, teams establish health priorities based on student and staff health issues and a school health assessment such as the School Health Index or Buckeye Best. Using information obtained from the conference sessions, the teams will develop an action plan. When school resumes, the team implements its plan to improve the health behavior of students and staff. When the action plan is completed, the team can then develop new priorities and a new action plan. Note: At the conclusion of the conference, all teams will turn in a copy of their completed action plan.

Registration fee (does not include lodging):

  • $660 per team of 4 people

  • $825 per team of 5 people

  • $990 per team of 6 people

The 2009 Coordinated School Health Conference is designed to help team participants develop priorities and implement plans that improve the health behavior and environment of students and staff within the school building and within the district.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Develop an action plan to improve student and staff health, and implementation of the wellness policy;

  • Implement strategies that contribute to success of the academic Continuous Improvement Plan;

  • Identify resources, tools, ideas, programs and training to implement the Coordinated School Health Model;

  • Initiate and/or maintain a school-community health team process;

  • Improve and enhance skills in health related topics.

Build a winning team by utilizing the following people:  administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, school nurses, food service directors, board members and community leaders.

Catch Program

The Ohio Department of Education is offering CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Student Health) Programs and training to schools with a coordinated school health team in place.

CATCH is the coordinated approach to child health.  The goal of CATCH is to affect children's attitudes and behaviors towards nutrition and physical activity.  It is the largest school-based promotion study that has been done in the United States.  CATCH was shown to improve children's food and activity behaviors, increase levels of activity in physical education classes, and reduce the fat content of school lunches.
