Conference Action Plan Template

State Planning Committee for Health Education in Ohio’s (SPCHEO) is proud to be hosting the Coordinated School Health Conference, now in its 20th year. This premier event provides high quality professional development and a forum for school faculty and staff, administrators, and community partners to assess, discuss and respond to health issues, policies and practices that impact a student’s ability to achieve academically through coordinated school health programs. The 2009 conference is offered in collaboration and support from the Ohio Department of Education’s cooperative agreement with the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This year’s conference is designed to challenge the participating districts to look more comprehensively at their system of learning supports and HOW they are coordinated to meet students’ physical, emotional, and social needs. This will enable districts to build sustainable coordinated school health programs that have proper governance and leadership, focus on systems and use data to drive decision making.

Building School Capacity to Achieve Health and Learning

The conference sessions include:

  • The School Environment and Adolescent Well-Being: Beyond Academics

Catch Program

The Ohio Department of Education is offering CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Student Health) Programs and training to schools with a coordinated school health team in place.

CATCH is the coordinated approach to child health.  The goal of CATCH is to affect children's attitudes and behaviors towards nutrition and physical activity.  It is the largest school-based promotion study that has been done in the United States.  CATCH was shown to improve children's food and activity behaviors, increase levels of activity in physical education classes, and reduce the fat content of school lunches.
